More

What kind of world arises with the birth or the transformation of an identity, which values, aesthetics and codes are at work, which rules are given, which of them should be broken? Receptiveness is a good start. To understand something requires process. What’s really there? (Like really there).

Beyond methodologies there are universal rituals: discovering the inner truth of a subject and translating it into structure/texture/rhythm, falling in love with details, expressing emotions through sensual levels, switching between thinking and feeling, confronting logic and speculation – overcoming the status quo by using the unknown as imaginative element: “What if?”.

RADICAL THINKING

Brand Narrative and Identity for SPRIND

The federal government agency SPRIND is looking for answers to the social, ecological and economic challenges of our time. That‘s why communication for SPRIND is not about marketing – but about conveying the energy of making things possible, it‘s about optimism for the future and the willingness to tackle and shape this future – maybe it‘s even about turning German Angst into something like bravery and a thirst for risk.

THE DICTATORSHIP OF ART

JONATHAN MEESE

”The only authority in my life is art and my mom.“ From whatever angle you look at Jonathan Meese’s work it is full of enthusiasm, passion, strong messages, fundamental perception, totally and spectaculararily. The main idea for his website was to give the full stage to this energy and his sheer endless artistic output. The platform is a growing and non-linear documentary about an artist and his total commitment to his beliefs.

ARTISTIC ACTIVISM

Teaching Assignment

What is happening out there in the face of the overwhelming threat of an impending climate catastrophe and the social and political reaction somewhere between ignorance, repression and pessimism on the one hand and ridiculed or criminalized activism on the other? Can we respond with great creative freedom and imagination? Can we develop experimental communicative formats that act between the fronts and mediate, activate and shake things up?

ATTITUDE MACHINE

RAF SIMONS

Raf Simons constantly investigates the very perception of men and defines how they might be. Instead of just showing a slideshow of looks and campaign photography on the website we wanted to rather turn the moods, atmospheres and statements of the very psychological fashion of Raf Simons into immersive experiences. Its about conveying the particular conceptual and emotional context of each collection. Is it marketing? Fashion? Art? Digital experiment? It doesn’t matter, and that’s the beauty of it.

KOW GALLERY

Berlin gallery KOW represents international artists from different generations, cultural backgrounds and approaches to media who share the engagement with social realities and respond to political challenges with aesthetic consciousness. The task for their website was to develop an impactful stage for this particular approach and to give space to their crucial but sometimes not easy to consume contributions to the artistic discourse.

NEXT PREMIUM

BMW i

BMW i stands for visionary electric cars and mobility services, inspiring design and a new understanding of premium that is strongly defined by sustainability. Dorten Studios was responsible for the global launch of the BMW i3 and the overall communication of the brand. The visual task was to transform an existing visual style from a futuristic, artificial interpretation into real life step by step.

A DISTINCTIVE VOICE

DIE ZEIT

The german weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT doesn’t have problems. Quite the opposite. If you have – or are – a strong voice, you don’t need advertising promoting a product or your brand. But DIE ZEIT wanted to treat itself to something useful whilst at the height of its development. They wanted to be more transparent and show how they actually are. In five portraits we visualized what it means to write for DIE ZEIT.

A NOTION OF SPEED

BMW

Stage designs, a kinetic media sculpture and the media staging for the Vision Loop with more than 500 seats and a 150-metre-long circuit: Through the years I had the pleasure of designing and staging several highly emotional presentations for BMW on the IAA. The goal was always to create a dense and immediate visitor experience to convey the contemporary dynamic of the brand.

ACTIVISM AND TENDERNESS

THE NEW PATRONS

New Patrons are people who want to make positive change. They hire artists to develop works of art that propose answers to urgent questions in their city, town, or village. The Society of New Patrons provides the logistical infrastructure and supports citizens, artists, and cooperation partners in commissioning, financing, and realizing the projects. The visual identity reflects the duality of this context: The power of activism and the tenderness of personal participation.
